Photography Classes

Open to all.

The Wilkinson Cameras Shield is awarded to the photographer judged to have entered the best photograph in the show from across all classes.

Closing date for all photographic entries is 8pm on the Tuesday four days before the show. No late entries will be accepted


  1. The photography competition is open to all and the Show Committee looks to encourage as many new and previous entrants as possible to take part. However due to the limited space and the continued growth in the number of overall entries, there is a limit of three entries per exhibitor per class. There is, however, no limit on the number of classes, entered, and exhibitors are encouraged to enter as many classes as they wish.
  2. Photographs in all classes must not have previously won a prize* at any Rainford Show. (*Prize means a 1st, 2nd or 3rd prize awarded at Rainford Show)
  3. Photographs may or may not be mounted on card but no entries will be accepted that are framed.
    • Classes 130 to 136 may be colour or black and white prints up to a maximum size of 20" x 16" including the cardboard mount
    • Class 137: Prints up to A4 - not to be mounted on card
  4. All entries must have the photographer's name, the title of the photograph and the show classification clearly displayed on the back surface. The exhibitor's name must not be visible on the front of the exhibit.
  5. Closing date for all photographic entries is 8pm on the Tuesday four days before the show. No late entries will be accepted.
  6. Photographs may be taken on film or digitally but must be sourced from your own original work.
  7. The entry fee per photograph is 20p for all classes with the exception of Class 133 'PETS' which is £1, from which a donation of 80p will be made to the charity Guide Dogs for the Blind.
  8. Attention is drawn to the Show Rules (No. 8) - whilst every care will be taken to maintain the condition of all entries, the Show Committee cannot be responsible for any unforeseen loss or damage that may occur during the staging and exhibition of the photographs. Entrants are requested to only enter their photographs on the acceptance of this condition.
  9. No photographs may be removed prior to the close of the show. You are requested to collect your photographs from the Village Hall at 4.30 pm on the day of the show.

A photograph of a person or people that may be a portrait, or it may be saying something about a person, or what they are doing at the time

132 "NATURE"
Animals, birds, plants, flowers, insects, etc. in the wild or a visit to zoo but not domestic pets

A photograph that may be humorous, serious or cute of your own or someone else's pet dog, cat, rabbit, hamster, budgie or the like. Not, however, animals in the wild - these are to be entered in the Nature class.

Your photographs of the Merseyside county (to include Liverpool City, Sefton, Knowsley, Wirral and St Helens) that record daily life, its people, architecture, history, music, nature and countryside etc that attracts visitors from across the world and makes Merseyside unique.

All forms and ages of transport - cars, trains, boats and planes as well as motorcycles, pushbikes and the like. Look also for those more quirky contraptions that get people around in their work or leisure.

Photographs of any subject - from entrants who have never previously won a prize for photography at the Rainford Show. Those new to photography or junior competitors are particularly encouraged to enter this class
